People living with cancer affect everyone around them. Relationships become richer and, with proper treatment and care some patients are able to become spontaneous and allow wonderful adventures to happen in their lives and in the lives around them.
The Sault Area Hospital Foundation raises funds through a number of community events to assure the best equipment is made available to local and regional cancer patients.
"The Sault has an excellent program that allows the patient to be treated as near to home as possible. A radiotherapy component is, however, currently lacking and impacts on the ability to deliver a truly comprehensive program to the ever increasing numbers of Algoma cancer patients needing treatment.
The volumes continue to put increasing demands on the present system. Breakthroughs in management are coming fast and furious with treatment schedules becoming increasingly complex and straining the workload capacity. Cure rates continue to climb in the presence of an increasing incidence.
There have been three expansions in the past 12 years in the cancer program to respond to the demands. Each has been a "temporary" facility while plans evolved for the "Algoma Regional Cancer Centre” in the new Sault Area Hospital facility. Our goal is an opening in 2008, but we need to ante up our share of the cost. Please help us make a difference. Please help us achieve our goal….CURE."
David Walde, MD, FRCPC
"Providing financial support for the cancer clinic development and our new hospital is essential to bringing to Sault Ste. Marie the technology of a radiation bunker and a first class facility which will further enable our skilled local healthcare practitioners in meeting the challenge of the fight against cancer in our community."
Jerome Quenneville, President and CEO Sault Area Hospital.
